Dong Bin is a long-term hired associate professor and assistant director of the Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research, Peking University. In 2009, he received his Ph.D. from the Department of Mathematics, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). After graduation, he used to be a visiting assistant professor at the Department of Mathematics, University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Between 2011 and 2014, he was an assistant professor (Tenure-Track) at the Department of Mathematics, University of Arizona. He joined the Peking University at the end of 2014.
His main study areas are applied and computational harmonic analysis, optimal methods, machine learning, and deep learning and its application in image and data science. The applications include image reconstruction and restoration, biological and medical imaging, biomedical image analysis, disease quantification, and treatment optimization. He has published more than 50 research papers on internationally important academic journals and conferences, such as
Journal of the American Mathematical Society, Applied and Computational Harmonic Analysis, SIAM Serial Journals, Inverse Problems, Mathematics of Computation, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B, and ICML. He holds 2 US patents and is currently an editorial committee member of the journal Inverse Problems and Imaging. In 2014, he was awarded the Outstanding Young Scholar Award by the Hong Kong Qiushi Foundation.
