XTU Outstanding Talent Training Model Achieves Remarkable Results

The 8th International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM) was held at Tsinghua University on June 9, 2019. The 5th New World Mathematics Awards were presented at the conference. He Yiqin and Cao Huabin are students of the School of Mathematics and Computational Science of Xiangtan University. Their bachelor's degree thesis won the silver medal and the honorable mentioned prize respectively in the undergraduate group. There were 6 awards for undergraduate group in this year's selection, and XTU got 2, achieving a major breakthrough in this regard across Hunan.

NWMA is set up for outstanding Chinese mathematics students from all over the world. It is jointly established by Professor Shing-Tung Yau, Chinese outstanding mathematician and Fields Medal and Wolf Prize in Mathematics winners, and Dr. Henry Cheng Kar-shun, New World Development Co., Ltd. director and general manager, in 2007. The awards-presenting ceremony is held every three years and has been successfully held for four times. It aims to inspire outstanding Chinese mathematics students worldwide to pursue mathematical truths and recognize the achievements of young mathematical talents. The current selection covers 3 years from 2017 to 2019. There are 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 1 honorable mentioned prize in the undergraduate group. Among the 3 medals awarded in 2018, Xiang University won 1 silver medals and 1 honorable mentioned prize.
