XTU Students Awarded MCM/ICM Special Prize Nomination

Xiangtan University recently has achieved good results in the 2020 American College Students Mathematical Contest in Modeling/Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM). It received 1 nomination for the special prize, 2 first prizes, and 10 second prizes, with a winning percentage exceeding 39%. The participating students were mainly from various science and engineering colleges, law school, business school, and management school. Under the thoughtful organization and guidance of the university, schools and colleges, and instructors, XTU has achieved the best results since it started participating in this competition.
The MCM/ICM is sponsored by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Application (COMAP). It is the only international mathematical modeling contest and the most influential one of its kind in the world. The contest emphasizes the originality of research and solutions, teamwork, communication, and the rationality of the results. The contents involve economics, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, security and other fields. It requires 3 undergraduates to form a team and complete all the work from modeling, finding solutions, and proving, to thesis writing on the specified problem within 4 days.
More than 20,000 participating teams this year were from universities in 17 countries and regions including the United States, China, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. They were Harvard University, Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tsinghua University, Peking University, and other famous universities. The nomination award rate is only 0.17%, the first prize award rate 7.09%, and the second prize award rate 15.35%.
