Faculty Overview

The State Council called for nationwide supports to the development of Xiangtan University (XTU) in 1974 when the university restarted to admit students. Nearly 90 prestigious universities across the country such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University and Renmin University of China have sent 622 outstanding teachers to XTU for years. XTU's highly qualified teachers and its advanced concept on school management and the spirit of rigorous scholarship have laid a solid foundation for developing the university at a high starting point.

The university has 1488 full-time teachers and 946 part-time teachers. Over 75% of the teachers have senior professional titles or doctoral degrees, and 25% of them have studied abroad. A batch of foreign experts from countries such as the USA, UK, France, and Japan, have been employed. The staff holding senior professional titles is 329, and that with associate professional titles is 513.

Among the faculty members of the university, there are currently 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), 1 candidate of the first batch of "Ten Thousand Talent Program" for Millions of Leading Engineering Talents, 1 famous teacher of the “Ten Thousand Talent Program”, 1 candidate of the first batch of the “National Top-notch Young Professionals” list (National Ten Thousand Talents Program), 3 distinguished professors, 1 lecture professor, and 2 young scholars in Cheung Kong Scholars Program, 4 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 1 winner of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, 7 state-level candidates for the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project in New Century, 4 innovation teams (including one nominated team) supported by the Ministry of Education, 4 state-level teaching groups, 3 national model teachers, 9 national excellent teachers, 4 national distinguished teachers (ranking first among Hunan universities), 31 members of Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University by the Ministry of Education, 52 experts enjoying special government allowances by the State Council, 1 national outstanding science and technology worker, 1 national intellectual property rights leading talent, 1 national patent information leading talent, 2 members included into the Program for Leading Talents in Science and Technology of Hunan Province, 15 members of “Hundred Talent Program” of Hunan, 4 winners of Xu Teli Education Award of Hunan, 5 experts receiving special government allowances by the Hunan Provincial Government, 6 excellent social science young experts of Hunan Province, 11 outstanding teachers of Hunan, 18 Lotus Scholars of Hunan Province and chair professors, 94 candidates for the “New Century 121 Talent Program” of Hunan Province, and 6 nominees for Hunan’s new century academic and technological leaders.
