Outstanding Achievements in Humanities and Social Sciences
A series of measures haven been taken at Xiangtan University (XTU) to innovate and promote studies on humanities and social sciences, including the “Project-driven and Achievement-oriented” idea implementation, and such measures taken as innovation mechanism, reform innovation, and enhancing encouragement. Therefore remarkable achievements have been made in those fields and scientific research level improved during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2010-2015).
From 2010 to 2015, XTU has published 32 papers in SSCI and A&HCI, 81 first-class academic articles and 746 second-class ones, 2,308 papers on CSSCI source journals and 650 books on humanities and social sciences. The books include 310 monographs, 273 compilations, 26 translations, 23 reference books, and 16 ancient book collations. Its 33 results passed the Hunan provincial social science achievements appraisal, including 7 leading ones and 16 advanced ones. A national key publishing project during the "12th five-year plan" period called the "Revolutionist Collections: Progressive Periodicals from 1915-1949" was officially published by Xiangtan University Press in 2015. The Collections systematically collected 151 revolutionist periodicals founded directly by the Communist Party of China (CPC) and those founded due to the influence or support of CPC during the New-Democratic Revolution period (1919-1949). It comprises of 428 volumes with over 300 million Chinese characters. Its publication has an extremely important position and role in the victory of China's new-democratic revolution, the Marxism with Chinese characteristics, and the cultivation and formation of the revolutionary spirit of the Chinese Communist Party.
Since 1995, XTU has won 216 prizes at provincial or ministerial levels, including 5 second prizes and 5 third prizes at the Higher Education Institution Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences) held in 1995, 1998, 2003, 2006, 2009 and 2012; 1 first prize of the Third Outstanding Achievement Award in China Legal Science in 2015; 1 second prize of T.K. Ann Outstanding Paper Award in International Trade in 2010; 1 second prize of the Second Outstanding Achievement Award in State Ethnic Affairs and Ethnic Problems in 2010; 2 special prizes, 20 first prizes, 46 second prizes and 84 third prizes at the Outstanding Achievement Awards of Philosophy and Social Science held in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2016 and 2017.
