The Delegation of Xiangtan University Attend the First Anniversary Ceremony of the Confucius Institute at Makerere University

Xiangtan University, Dec. 21, 2015: On December 15, 2015, the first anniversary ceremony of the Confucius Institute at Makerere University held at Main Building Hall of Makerere University. China’s Ambassador to Uganda Zhao liya, President of Xiangtan University Huang Yunqing and the delegation from Xiangtan University, leaders of Makerere University, representatives of overseas Chinese in Uganda and all the members of the Confucius Institute attended the ceremony to celebrate the first anniversary of the Confucius Institute at Makerere University.

In the speech of Huang Yunqing at the ceremony, he affirmed the achievements of the Confucius Institute in the past year, and expressed heartfelt thanks to the government of Uganda, Confucius Institute Headquarter, China’s Embassy to Uganda and overseas Chinese in Uganda. It has been the supports from every parts that contribute to today's Confucius Institute at Makerere University and a more prosperous future is waiting for us.

China's Ambassador to Uganda Zhao liya said, "I have been to Makerere University for many times and taken part in many activities of the Confucius Institute. Great changes occur and big progresses enact. It is due to all the teachers and volunteers working together that great achievements are made." He also pointed out the platform of Confucius Institute strengthened the communication and understanding between China and Uganda.

The evening party of the ceremony got started with the dance "Auspicious Day". The students of the Confucius Institute displayed diverse art forms with Chinese traditional costumes, including TaiJi, Dai Dance, Huagu Opera, calligraphy, Sanjuban, Guzheng, etc. They were speaking, singing and performing in Chinese, which won the high praises from the audiences.

During the visit in Uganda, the delegation from Xiangtan University had an informal discussion on ways of promoting exchange & cooperation with principles of the Makerere University and its School of Humanities & Social Sciences. In addition, Huang Yunqing, President of Xiangtan University, participated in ribbon-cutting ceremony of new classroom for the Confucius Institute donated by China Embassy to Uganda.

The delegation of Xiangtan University also visited Uganda branch of ZTE Corporation to further negotiate the cooperative project "Sino-Africa Universities Cooperation 20+20". Moreover, they went to Moi University in Kenya and had a friendly discussion on the cooperative topic of teachers exchange and students exchange, etc.
