The International Symposium on Intellectual Property System and Intellectual Property Operation was held in Changsha on May 12, 2016. It was sponsored by the Hunan Intellectual Property Bureau, and organized by Intellectual Property Institute of Xiangtan University (XTU). Wang Kemin, deputy director of the standing committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, Xiao Xiangqing, director of the Hunan Intellectual Property Bureau, Zhang Jing, secretary of the CPC Xiangtan University Committee, and Wu Songqing, CFO of Hunan Aihua Group, were present at the symposium, and granted prizes for the winners of "Aihua Cup – First Cross-strait Patent Portfolio Analysis Competition for College Student".

XTU took a lead in Hunan to establish its Intellectual Property Institute in 2008, and entered into a joint construction agreement with the Hunan Intellectual Property Bureau in 2010. XTU innovated in modularized curriculum system, and combined efforts of the university, government, and enterprises to foster intellectual property personnel with comprehensive competence in an innovative way. The personnel cultivation system covers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education, fulfilling an employment rate of 100%.

XTU Intellectual Property Institute has been operated in an opening-up mind, and called for multi-channel collaboration in the past eight years. It jointly established Hunan Patent Analysis and Evaluation Center with the Hunan Intellectual Property Bureau and Intellectual Property Judicial Theoretical Research Base with the Hunan Higher People's Court in 2011 and 2012 respectively. XTU also has been maintaining exchanges and cooperation in this regard with University of Washington (UW), the Ohio State University, and University of Massachusetts (UMASS).
