A New Stage of Cooperation in Education between University of Leon and Xiangtan University

On the afternoon of September 1, the school opening ceremony of the major of Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation as the first project of our university about Chinese-western cooperation in education had been held in the international student building, and it was also the welcome party for new students from College of International Communications enrolled in 2013, which was a new stage of cooperation in education between our university and foreign universities. The vice headmaster Liu Changgeng, headmaster assistant Tan Yuanqiang, and other responsible persons from office of student affairs, office of academic affairs, College of International Communications, and College of Mechanical Engineering attended.

Liu Changgeng suggested that it was trends among universities to adopt diversified personnel training mode and to cultivate advanced multi-type engineering and technical talents who were expert in foreign languages and their specialized professions, and they should have a broad international view, as well as the ability to mix the advantages of Chinese and western cultures. Liu Changgeng highly appreciated the comprehensiveness, depth, and initiatives of cooperation between University of Leon and our university. He expected that the new students could have firm ambitions, and study hard in order to become highly quality talents with international view.

Tan Yuanqiang mainly talked about the reason for choosing Spain as the country to corporate with, as well as the reason for choosing the major of Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation as the cooperation project content. Tan Yuanqiang pointed out that Spanish industries like automobile manufacturing and machining enjoyed great international reputation, and University of Leon had a long history, complete experimental facilities and high management level, in addition, College of Mechanical Engineering had well-educated teachers and remarkable scientific research environment. He encouraged the new students to make the best of such opportunity and study hard to become more excellent.

This year, according to the “Project of Undergraduate Education Cooperation between Spanish University of Leon and Xiangtan University on the Major of Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation” that is approved by the Ministry of Education, College of International Communications will recruit 50 students who are majored in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation in Hunan province, and “4+0” or “2+2” mode will be adopted in cooperation with University of Leon. This is our university’s first Sino-foreign cooperation in education project approved by the Ministry of Education, as well as the first cooperation in education project between Spain and China.
