On May 15, the international top periodic Chemical Reviews (2012, 112(5):2833-2852) issued by the American Chemical Society (ACS) published the ZnO research report in recent 5 years by the team of “coordination bond and electronic control engineering” which is headed by distinguished visiting professor Sun Changqing, a “Lotus Scholar” from the School of Materials, Optoelectronics and Physics of Xiangtan University.
As a new generation of wide band gap semiconductor, ZnO boasts various novel features and is widely applied in photoelectric emission, catalytic action, super hydrophobic-super-hydrophilic controllable conversion, energy conversion with piezoelectric ceramic and rare-earth permanent magnetic materials, which is the highlight in the related field. However, the exploration and theoretic cognition of scale and defect effect of nano particle, its anomalous physical properties and variation law under high temperature and pressure remain in the initial stage.
The research team headed by Prof. Sun, sponsored by Hunan “Lotus Scholar” Program and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), has expanded and applied their original bond relaxation theory, polar theory of nonbonding electronic localization and local bond average method since 2007. They theoretically unify the elastic modulus, forbidden bandwidth and phonon dynamics of ZnO, elucidate the systemic cognition of structural thermal stability on catalysis, rare-earth permanent magnet, super-hydrophobicity and biological activity resulting from the changes of solid scale, temperature, high pressure and defects. develop the technology for preparation of controllable structural scale and physical properties, laying the theoretic foundation for conducting controllability research on chemical bond, electronic structure and properties of matter. What’s more, proceeding from the formation, fracture, relaxation and vibration of bonds and non-bonds, as well as the dynamics of corresponding electron transfer, polarization, localization and densification, they reveal and predict the inevitability and necessity of macroscopic behavior of functional materials.
Chemical Reviews is the most authoritative and influential periodic in chemistry across the world, with its average 5-year impact factor of 36.6. Its purpose is to publish keynote reports and survey articles of the latest research achievements in chemistry and its inter-disciplines, and emphasize the depth, systematicness, importance, novelty and preciseness of the achievements.
