Students from XTU Won the First Prize of National University Student Smart Car Contest

In the 6th Freescale Cup National University Student Smart Car Contest Finals, the team of Liu Peng, Deng Sai and Yang Lekai, who are students in School of Information Technology, won the First Prize of Electromagnetic Group.


In the past, students from XTU participated in the 3rd University Student Smart Car Contest of Hunan Province and the 6th Freescale Cup Smart Car Contest in South China, and achieved good results, including 2 provincial items of the First Prize, 3 of the Second Prize, 2 of the Third Prize, and 3 items of the First Prize in South China area, 2 of the Second Prize and 1 of the Winning Prize.

Freescale Cup National University Student Smart Car Contest is hosted by the Automation Teaching Guidance Committee from Educational Ministry. The contest is based on the defined model car platform, to apply 8-bit and 16-bit microcontrollers as the core control module to produce a smart car recognizing the road automatically by road sensor, motor drive and related programming. The smart car can drive according to the regular route, and the first completion car with the shortest time will be the winner. The contest includes camera, opto-electrical and electromagnetic groups, covering multiple principles like automation control, mode recognition, sensor technology, electronic, electric apparatus, computer and machine, etc.

The contest always takes “based on the cultivation, pay attention to participation, encourage exploration, and pursue excellence” as the guidance. The scale and competitiveness have been increasing gradually. This year, the contest attracted 6273 students of 2091 teams from 7 contest areas in China.
