Breakthrough of the Year: Study into the Multiferroic Nanomaterials in Our Faculty of Materials,Opto
Source:Date:2008-05-30
Recently good news is coming from Faculty of Materials, Optoelectronics and Physics in our university. Under the guidance of Prof. Li Jiangyu and Prof. Zhou Yichun, Xie Shuhong, a Ph.D candidate of our university, has made the multiferroic nanofibers for the first time in the world, which is a breakthrough in the studies of multiferroic nanomaterials. Xie Shuhong’s paper entitled “Multiferroic CoFe2O4–Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 Nanofibers by Electrospinning” was published in Appl. Phys. Lett. this year. As the preliminary achievement of her studies, the paper has attracted wide attention of researchers concerned at home and abroad. On April 28th, 2008, the special report on the nanotech website of Institute of Physics (www.nanotechweb.org) spoke highly of her paper, regarding it a promising study with a wide range of applications.
Multiferroic nanofibers enjoy excellent properties and have broad prospects of applications in data-storage, energy transfer, actuators, sensors, optics devices and micro electromechanical system, etc. In this field of research, Xie Shuhong made herself the first one in the world who had successfully made multiferroic CoFe2O4–Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 nanofibers by electrospinning. The simple technics makes it possible for the realization of continuous mass-production.
This research was co-funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China and Hunan Natural Science Foundation.
