Delegation Led by Vice Minister of Ministry of Education Zhao Qinping Gave an Inspection Visit to Ou

On April 3^rd, Vice Minister of Ministry of Education Zhao Qinping, Director Yang Yuliang, Associate Director Guo Xinli, Liang Guoxiong of Academic Degree Office of the State Council, accompanied by Director General Zhang Fangping, Associate Director General Shen Jiyun of Education Department of Hunan Province, gave an inspection visit to our university. A discussion meeting was held in the Conference Room on the second floor of Yifu Building. The leaders of our university Peng Guofu, Luo He’an, Huang Yunqing, Li Bochao, Chen Xiaoming, Zhou Yichun, Wang Jiping, Ning Jianmin, Xia Guohua and Liu Changgeng attended the meeting.

Peng Guofu, CCP Secretary of our university, presided the discussion meeting. President Luo He’an made a report to the Zhao Qinping’s delegation on the education tradition and advantage of our university and the major achievements of the education scope and level of the university, the construction of academic subjects and degree programmes, the work of scientific research and scientific development, the construction of teaching teams, students cultivation, teaching facilities and campus environment. President Luo also asked Ministry of Education to give special supports on the advantageous subjects of our university to make it constructed into national key subjects according to the demands and procedures of “211” key subject construction.

Peng Guofu pointed out in his report: First, Xiangtan is the glorious birth place of many leaders and celebrities. Building Xiangtan University well is of a special significance. The entrustment of Chairman Mao, the inscription of Comrade Jiang Zemin and the concern of CCP General Secretary Hu Jintao are encouragements and inspirations for all the staff of Xiangtan University. We must build Xiangtan University well as a great mission with strong responsibilities. Second, under the concerns and supports from Education of Ministry, CCP Committee and Government of Hunan Province, the developing tendency of Xiangtan University can be concluded as two sentences: the situation is quite good and the tendency is better; the potential is quite great and the hope is greater. Therefore, we have determination, confidence and the persistent spirit to carry out the entrustment of Chairman Mao: Do build Xiangtan University well. We must turn the concerns and supports of the leaders into motive forces in our further hard work in order not to let down the expectations from the leaders. Third, we must grasp the opportunity of the construction of national key subjects, take the application as a motive force, go on the new Long March with our own solid food, constantly strive to be stronger, focus on the internal works, integrate all the advantageous resources of the university and enhance the construction of national key subjects. We asked for the consistent and further supports from Ministry of Education.

Zhang Fangping pointed out in his speech that CCP Committee and Government of Hunan Province have paid high attention and special focus on the construction and development of the university. Building Xiangtan University well is not only the desire of Chairman Mao, but also the desire of all Hunan people. We hope that Ministry of Education will give further and stronger supports to the university. Take the Province-Ministry Co-construction as a platform and let Xiangtan University develop better and quicker.

Yang Yuliang pointed out in his speech that the change of Xiangtan University is great in recent years. The construction of subjects and degree programmes are in steady progress. The advantages and features of some subjects are obvious. All these laid a good foundation for the construction of national key subjects. National key subjects are now in the appraisal period. The second round application period will be continued after the appraisal. The university should make full preparations to get excellent appraisal results.

Zhao Qinping pointed out in the last speech that the construction and development of Xiangtan University is inspiring although the development period of the university isn’t long. The subjects get some advantages with a combination of arts and sciences. As for talents cultivation, lots of the graduates from the university work in different positions in Hunan Province, which makes great contributions to the economic and social development and scientific progression of Hunan Province. It’s true that “Hunan University cannot develop without Xiangtan University　and Xiangtan University cannot develop without Hunan Province”. Zhao Qinping also pointed out that it’s worthy to research on the development, construction and positioning of the development of the subjects for the universities, especially local universities. Zhao Qinping asked the university to make full, proper and appropriate considerations on the construction of teachers’ team, the structure of student origin, the construction of subjects, the hardware and software of laboratories. The university should take the construction of subjects as the primary thing, accelerate the development of the university in all aspects, make the development step to a new stage and write down a satisfactory answer paper to the fifty anniversary of the university.

Accompanied by Zhang Fangping, Shen Jiyun, Peng Guofu, Luo He’an, Huang Yunqing and Li Bochao, the delegation of Zhao Qinping and Yang Yuliang visited Shaoshan and presented flower baskets to the bronze statue of Chairman Mao.
