Opening Ceremony of “Key Laboratory of Low Dimensional Materials & Application Technology, Ministry

The unveiling ceremony of “Key Laboratory of Low Dimensional Materials & Application Technology (Xiangtan University), Ministry of Education” and 2007 Annual Seminar were held at our university on May 28th. The Academician of Two Academies Shi Changxu, Honor President of our university Academician Pan Jiluan, Deputy Director of Hunan Education Department Shen Jiyun and President Luo He’an unveiled for the laboratory.

President of Central South University Academician Huang Boyun, Academician Xue Qunji of Chinese Academy of Sciences, PLA General Armament Department, Chief Designer Zhou Jianping of Chinese Manned Space Engineering, Academician Jiang Minhua of Shandong University, Academician Wang Zhanguo, Academician Xia Jianbai and Academician Wen Lishi of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician Li Longtu and Academician Xue Qikun of Tsinghua University, Vice President of Nanjing University of Technology Academician Xu Nanping and Associate CCP Secretary Huang Jianxin, Vice President Zhou Yichun of our university attended the Opening Ceremony and Annual Seminar.

CCP Secretary of our university Peng Guofu, who’s attending Hunan CCP Representative Assembly in Changsha, especially came back to Xiangtan to visit the academicians and experts who presented in the seminar.

The Opening Ceremony was presided by Huang Jianxin, and Luo He’an delivered a welcome speech. Shen Jiyun read the Announcement of the Check Approval of Partial Project Construction of Key Laboratories of Ministry of Education, Announcement of Appointment of Directors and Academic Committee Directors of Biological Information Studies and So Forth 31 Key Laboratories of Ministry of Education. The announcements admitted the check approval of “Key Laboratory of Low Dimensional Materials & Application Technology, Ministry of Education” and the formal operation under the name of Key Laboratories of Ministry of Education; Zhou Yichun was appointed as the Director and Xue Qunji as the Director of Academic Committee of the laboratory. Huang Jianxin read Announcement of Appointment of Advisors and So Forth of Key Laboratory of Low Dimensional Materials & Application Technology, Ministry of Education. Advisors, Deputy Director, Members of Academic Committee of the laboratory and Deputy Director of the laboratory were appointed. Shen Jiyun and Luo He’an issued the Appointment Certificates to them. Xue Qunji, Pan Jiluan and Shi Changxu addressed at the Opening Ceremony in succession.

Material science is the main backbone of modern science and engineering technology, the forerunner and basis to develop high and new technologies. “Key Laboratory of Low Dimensional Materials & Application Technology (Xiangtan University), Ministry of Education” was approved to construct by Ministry of Education in 2003. Its major research object is structural, functional and intelligent low dimensional materials with important application backgrounds. The laboratory researched on the preparation, structure, micro and microcosmic function, cross scale simulation and the key technologies in practical application process. The laboratory has formed three characteristic research directions: metal coat film preparation and mechanics performance, ferroelectric and photoelectric film’s preparation and performance characterization, shape evolvement of low dimensional structure. The laboratory won nine provincial or ministry-level prizes, eight technology certificates and invention patents. The construction of the laboratory successfully passed the check approval by expert team of Ministry of Education in July 2006 and formally entered the list of key laboratory of Ministry of Education. The opening of the laboratory marked a new stage in the construction of material subject and scientific research of our university.

The laboratory fully exerts the comprehensive advantages of material, physics, chemistry and mechanics and formed a cross-subject innovation platform. Its talents cultivation system includes four major subject doctoral programs, one major subject post-doctoral scientific research mobile station and nine auxiliary master programs. There are sixty-six staff in the laboratory within sixteen Doctor Supervisors, nineteen professors, twenty-six doctors, one Changjiang Scholar of Ministry of Education, one winner of National Outstanding Scientific Fund, one national famous teacher, five chair professor of Hunan “Lotus Scholar Plan”, five winners of New Century Talents Fund of Ministry of Education, one of National Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Talents, nine of the staff enjoy special allowance from the government, five provincial excellent young experts, three winners of provincial Youth Technology Award and five winners of provincial Technology Innovation Award for Outstanding Youth.

After the opening ceremony, the Annual Seminar was held in the laboratory, and eighteen Academicians and experts including Shi Changxu made special academic reports respectively.
