Vice-governor Guo Kailang’s Demand During His Inspection in Our University:Be the “Vanguard” in the

Vice-governor Guo Kailang of People’s Government of Hunan Province came to visit and inspect our university in the morning of June 12th. CCP Vice Secretary of Xiangtan City Yu Aiguo, Deputy Director of Hunan Education Department Shen Jiyun, Deputy Mayor of Xiangtan City Zhou Qiaoyi, leaders of the university Peng Guofu, Luo He’an, Huang Yunqing, Li Bochao, Dai Feijun, Chen Xiaoming, Zhou Yichun, Wang Jiping, Xia Guohua and Liu Changgeng accompanied the Vice-governor in his visit.

The group of Guo Kailang visited the library, Key Laboratory of Low Dimensional Materials &Application Technology, Ministry of Education, Hunan Key Laboratory of Scientific Engineering Calculation and Numerical Value Emulation. Guo also walked into Qinhu Students’ Dormitory and Nanyuan Dining-room. He friendly talked with the students and inquired about their living and studying situations.

A report meeting was held in the conference room on the second floor of Yifu Building. The meeting was presided by Peng Guofu, CCP Secretary of our university.

At the report meeting, President Luo He’an made a report on the basic situation of the university and the relative works serving for the economic and social development of Hunan Province. The university has always put serving for the economic and social development of Hunan Province in an important position. In recent years and especially after the opening the Ninth CCP Representative Assembly of Hunan Province, the university abides by the demand of constructing strong education province, strong culture province and promoting new-type industrialization, puts the function of society service in a prominent place and gets notable effects. Our university mapped out and mended Eleventh Five Year Development Plan of Xiangtan University to accelerate the progress of building high-level university and endeavor to be the vanguard in the strong education province construction. The university also drew out Opinions on Serving for the Economic and Social Development of Hunan Province, signed cooperation agreement with People’s Government of Yuhu District, Xiangtan City and Hunan Jianglu Machinery Group by now and positively pursue the all-sided, long-term and stable cooperation with local governments, enterprises and institutions. At the same time, the university fully exerts the advantages in the social science research fields such as public administration, tourism, law and economics studies, positively undertakes the application researches and provides decision consultation and quality service for local governments, enterprises and institutions.

Peng Guofu pointed out in his report that after the Ninth CCP Representative Assembly of Hunan Province, the adjustment of university development stratagem to serve the development of economic and social development of Hunan Province is an important act to complement Hunan Provincial Government’s policies of making people rich and the province strong, promoting new-type industrialization, constructing education strong province and culture strong province. Our university has grown up and developed under the concern of the leaders of the CCP and the nation, so we should endeavor to be the “Vanguard” in the construction of education strong province. This is our responsibility and the interior requirements of converting university operation concept and building high-level university. Meanwhile, our university drew out Opinions on Serving for the Economic and Social Development of Hunan Province and put forward the guiding line of serving the local economic and social development and nine key working points of serving Hunan economic and social development. He asked Hunan CCP Committee and Government of the Hunan Province strengthen the support to our university and create a good condition and exterior environment for the development of the university.

Yu Aiguo pointed out in his speech that Xiangtan University made explorations and strode a solid step in the process of promoting Hunan new-type industrialization and constructing education strong province. The experience of Xiangtan University can be conclude as “ Facing to the society, stepping into the enterprise, cooperating in business, developing the industry and prospering the industry by education”. It’s obvious that the step of Xiangtan University is quite positive, quite solid and quite firm. He hope that the university further increases the strength on production, study and research to actually makes greater contributions for local development and the prosperity of social career.

Guo Kailang pointed out that Chairman Mao inscribed the name of Xiangtan University himself and entrusted that the university should be built well. Xiangtan University has grown up and developed under the concern of several generations’ leaders of the CCP and the nation, so it got an unique advantage and all the staff of the university should firmly keep the memory the important entrustment, shoulder the due responsibility and seize every minute to build Xiangtan University well according to the “Two Musts” put forward by Chairman Mao. Xiangtan University is the third comprehensive key university that brings forward the concept of “Running the university to serve the local place, running the university to serve the economy.” The university exerts positive function of promoting new-type industrialization of Hunan Province and constructing strong education province. Guo Kailang stressed that Xiangtan University should accelerate the process of constructing education strong province by “feature university operation”, make its own feature more prominent, give special support to advantageous subjects, cultivate a group of subject talents, lead the university development of the province to a better direction and do actual actions to be the “Vanguard” of education strong province. Guo Kailang also gave his full acknowledgement and support to the Opinions on Serving for the Economic and Social Development of Hunan Province. He asked the university to focus both on the production, study and research, talents cultivation, to carry out Opinions on Serving for the Economic and Social Development of Hunan Province, to serve local economy and social development and hand in a satisfactory answer sheets on all these issues.
