Our Students Won First Prize of Pan Pearl River Delta Undergraduate Computer Works Competition

Good news came from Guizhou University in the afternoon of July 1^st. Browser Design and Realization for the Blind (Instructor: Liang Zhewei) of Ye Jin and Wen Ming, majoring in Computer of Grade 2003 in School of Information Engineering of our university won Gold Prize and Best Innovation Prize with absolute advantage because their final score ranked first in 2007 Pan Pearl River Delta Undergraduate Computer Works Competition. The other two Gold Prizes were won by File Image Partition of Hongkong Baptist University and ORION: Uncertain Database Management System of Hongkong Polytechnic University. This is another piece of good news after the achievements got in Hunan Undergraduate Computer Works Competition by the students in School of Information Engineering of our university, which fully exhibited the solid basic knowledge and innovative spirit of our students.

Pan Pearl River Delta Undergraduate Computer Works Competition is an annual competition with wide spread area, large scale and great influence. It becomes a good platform for the Computer majors of Pan Pearl River Delta to exhibit themselves. The competition was held as Undergraduate Computer Competition in Guangdong Province, Hongkong SAR and Macau SAR in 2005. The competition was extended to Pan Pearl River Delta in 2006. There were ninety-eight works from nearly forty universities in Guizhou, Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Yunnan, Jiangxi, Hongkong and Macau in this year’s competition. Forty-three works entered the final prize competition. Six Silver Prizes, nine Copper Prizes and four Single Prizes were selected in the competition.

The works in Pan Pearl River Delta Undergraduate Computer Works Competition mainly came from the works of graduation design and graduation thesis of the computer related undergraduates. The competition appraised the works from the respectives of source, scientificalness, innovation, invention difficulties, application values, display effects and writing descriptions, etc. It aimed to cultivate the innovative spirits of the undergraduates, confirm the confidence and resolution of the computer education in the right direction of facing the application, market and society in order to provide outstanding talents for the society, meet the needs for computer application talents and provide a good communication platform for the cultivation of computer talents.

Before this, the works of the students in School of Information Engineering of our university Browser Design and Realization for the Blind won First Prize in Hunan Undergraduate Computer Works Competition, Good Point Set Based Constrain Optimized Evolving Algorithm (by Luo Zhiwen and Li Jun, Instructor: Xiao Chixin) won Second Prize, Video Fingerprint Based TV Advertising Monitoring System (Zhou Ye and Fan Chao, Instructor: Ouyang Jianquan) won Third Prize. The work made by Ye Jin and Wen Ming was selected to join Pan Pearl River Delta Undergraduate Computer Works Competition on the behalf of Hunan Province.
