Our University Won Hunan 2006 Advanced Work Unit of International Students and Students from Hongkon

Good news came from Hunan Education Annual Meeting recently. Our university won Hunan 2006 Advanced Work Unit of International Students and Students from Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan. This is the first time to issue the award in Hunan Province and it’s also the first special education award on international education of Hunan Education Annual Meeting. It aims at promoting the further focus on the work of international students and Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan students to enlarge the enrollment scope and elevate the enrollment level. This award is a fully affirmation and encouragement for our university’s work of international students and Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan students. The other winners are Central South University, Hunan University, Hunan Normal University and other universities and units.

The work of international students of our university has developed rapidly in recent years. There were 49 long-term or short-term international students and students from Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan in 2006, which increased 60% than 2005. In addition to language learners, the university enrolled major-learning international students in 2006. The postgraduate joint cultivation between our university and abroad universities is also in process. Our university signed postgraduate joint cultivation agreement with Cheju National University of Republic of Korea in 2006. The employed foreign teachers properly meet the needs of the teaching units. The university employed 26 foreign teachers for School of Foreign Languages, Department of Postgraduate, School of International Education, Xinxiang College, Vocational - Technical Institute and School for Staff’s Children in 2006. The teaching languages include English, French, German, Spanish and Japanese and the number of foreign teachers in our school ranks first in Hunan province. Nowadays, the international work of our university is prosperous and universities of many countries are contacting and discussing the cooperation projects in different fields, including students’ cultivation and cooperation research.
