2006 National Outstanding Youth Science Fund Academic and Evaluation Meeting of NNFSC was Held

National Outstanding Youth Science Fund Academic and Evaluation Meeting of Mathematical Department of NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China) undertook by our university was held in Xiangtan Hotel from March 18 to 19. 86 winners of National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 15 Academicians in Experts Group, the leaders and experts of NSFC attended the meeting. Deputy Provincial Governor Xu Yunzhao, Deputy Secretary of Xiangtan Municipal Party Committee Fu Yongmei, Deputy Mayor Zhou Qiaoyi and leaders from the university including Peng Guofu, Luo He’an, Huang Yunqing and Zhou Yichun presented at the meeting to look up the Academicians and experts.

At the open ceremony of the meeting held on 18, President Luo He’an delivered an ardent speech and gave a warm welcome to the Academicians, experts and leaders. The Associate Director Shen Wenqing and Associate Administrative Director Ji Peiwen of NSFC also gave speeches at the meeting. The open ceremony was presided by Academician Su Zhaobin, Director of Mathematical Department of NSFC.

At the meeting there were exchanges and evaluations on the work of the winners of 1999 to 2002 National Outstanding Youth Science Fund. 86 winners of National Outstanding Youth Science Fund were divided into five groups, namely Mechanics, Mathematics, Astronomy, PhysicsⅠand Physics Ⅱ, for academic exchanges. The Experts Group made medium term checkups and evaluations on the works of the winners of National Outstanding Youth Science Fund. They also gave lots of constructive opinions and suggestions to improve the fund operation.

On the afternoon of the March 19, part of the meeting attendees paid a visit to our university accompanied by Vice President Zhou Yichun. The representatives visited the School of Material and Phoelectronic Physics, the laboratories of “Nanometer Nickel Coat”, “Nanometer Impress”, “Ultraclean” in School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics. They also had a discussion with the teachers of physics, mechanics and relative subjects. The leaders of the two schools made reports to the experts respectively. After the reports, the experts fully confirmed the achievements on subject construction, campus construction and teaching staff construction of our university in recent years. They also gave valuable suggestions on the construction of relative subjects.

National Outstanding Youth Science Fund is a specially established youth science fund by the country. It aims to accelerate the development of the youth science technologists, sponsor the domestic outstanding youth scholars, inspire them to undertake domestic basic research and application basic research of natural science and accelerate the cultivation of a group of leading scholars in the advancing front of the world.
