Professor Zhou Yichun Won National Outstanding Youth Fund

Professor Zhou Yichun won 2005 National Outstanding Youth Fund of 1,000,000 Yuan for four years’ research, which is a zero breakthrough of National Outstanding Youth Fund. He is the only winner in Hunan among the few winners in local colleges and universities. National Outstanding Youth Science Fund is a specially established youth science fund by the country. It aims to accelerate the development of the youth science technologists, sponsor the domestic outstanding youth scholars, inspire them to undertake domestic basic research and application basic research of natural science and accelerate the cultivation of a group of leading scholars in the advancing front of the world.

Professor Zhou Yichun won the fund for his outstanding research achievements in the making of coat and pellicle as well as mechanical properties of physics. After receiving the Doctor’s degree in Research Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Science, in February 1994, he began to work for our university and became a professor when he was 33. He worked as a doctoral supervisor in Chinese Academy of Science at the age of 34. He is the leading scholar of the school and Doctoral Program of “General Mechanics and fundament of Mechanics”, Doctoral Program of “Material Physics and Chemistry” Scientific research PIM site of “Mechanics” were approved. Key Lab on Advanced Materials and its Features of Floating of Ministry of Education was also established. Having won the First Prize of CAS Awards for Scientific Progress in 1996 and the Second Prize of Scientific Progress of Hunan in 2003, he was awarded First Prize in Hunan Teaching Achievements Awards in 2004 and Second Prize in the National Teaching Achievements Awards. He has published more than 70 SCI papers and 50 EI papers in newspapers and magazines which are well known all around the world with impact factors over 4.0, such as Appl, Phys, Lett. His publications were cited for more than 150 times. He supervised 4 doctor students and 13 master students with one got the 100 Excellent Doctor’s Thesis Nomination Award. He also presided 2 senior international academic meetings and 3 domestic academic meetings.
