Prof. Xu Jinchao Receives Humboldt Prize of Germany

Professor Jinchao Xu, Director of Institute of Computational and Applied Mathematics of Xiangtan University and the Special Professor of Provincial Lotus Scholars Plan, has received 2005 Humboldt Prize for Senior American Scientists from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Bonn, Germany, in honor of his achievements in computational-mathematics research and teaching. The committee evaluates Xu as “one of the most renowned scientists in the field of numerical mathematics in the world”, and notes that “his work also has had a significant impact on numerous other fields of research”.
Professor Xu Jinchao earned his Bachelor's Degree at Xiangtan University in 1982 and his Master's Degree at Peking University in 1984. He got his Doctor Degree at Cornell University of U.S. in 1989. He is Director of the Institute of Computational and Applied Mathematics OF Xiangtan University in China from 1997. He is also the Director of Center for Computational Mathematics of Pennsylvania State University in U.S.
Humboldt Prize was founded by former Federal German Government in 1972. It is granted to American scientists with international academic reputation. The scope of awarded subjects includes mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, engineering science, computer science and geosciences.
