Shaofeng Eminent Experts Forum Began Lecturing

Shaofeng Eminent Experts Forum of our university began lecturing on the evening of Mar. 29. National academician Bai Chunli, Academician of the Third World Science Academy, Executive Vice Dean and Vice Secretary of the Leading Party Group of Chinese Academy of Science, the alternate member of the 15th and 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Vice Chairman of Chinese Science Association, the Board Chairman of Chinese Chemistry Association, gave the first academic report named “Development Trend and Strategy of Science & Technology” for the forum.
The academic meeting was presided by Vice President Huang Yunqing. Secretary of the Party Peng Guofu, President Luo He’an, Vice President Chen Xiaoming, Zhou Yichun, Wang Jiping, and Secretary of Discipline Inspection committee Ning Jianmin attended the report. Peng Guofu made a speech to the open Shaofeng Eminent Experts Forum and issued the Letter of Appointment of Honorary Professor to academician Bai Chunli. He pointed out that the first objective of Shaofeng Eminent Experts Forum was to integrate the resources and extensively develop various high-level academic activities, so as to further enrich the contents of campus culture, upgrade the campus culture activities, and create a healthy, dense academic atmosphere. Another objective is to provide a platform to communicate and link eminent experts to the university. We can make use of the platform to attract and employ many well-known experts at home and abroad to give lectures in Xiangtan University and provide a big stage for them to propagandize idea and foster talents, so the experts and scholars can know and help Xiangtan University to develop, integrate and utilize more and more human resources in our new development.
Academician Bai Chunli elaborated on development trend and strategy of science & technology from two angles, i.e. one hundred retrospection and current situation of science & technology. He briefly introduced the world science & technology achievements obtained in past one hundred years and their influence, which effectively proves that science and technology is the primary productive force. He also gave a detailed analysis to the current situation of science and technology from aspects such as information technology, life technology, nanometer technology, energy technology, etc. He is a physical chemist who was awarded the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1997. He engaged in study of structure and physical property of polymer catalyzer, X-ray crystal structure of organic compounds, macular mechanics and EXAFS of conducted high polymers. He has turned to study a new rising frontier science, i.e. scanning tunnel micrology since the middle 1980s.
