The 96th events of Chinese Young Scientists Forum was held in our university from May 21 to 23. There were 40 experts gathered here, including 3 academicians, 20 special professors of “Yangtze River Scholar” or young scientists, winners of the National Outstanding Youth Funds, etc. They discussed the topic “the challenges on solid mechanics fields raised by the rapid development of the discipline of material studies” together. President Luo He'an, Vice President Zhou Yichun, President of Central South University, Academician Huang Boyun, Academician Bai Yilong from Chinese Academy of Sciences, President of Harbin University of Industry, Academician Du Shanyi and relevant leaders from Chinese Science Association, National 863 Expert Project Committee, National Natural Science Funds Committee, Chinese Society of Mechanics, Hunan Education Department attended the forum as well.

The opening ceremony was presided over by the Executive Chairman of the forum, professor Zhong Zheng from Tongji University. And Luo He'an made the opening speech. The forum took the form combining with expert reports and discussions. Experts converged to the point that the rapid development in Material Studies gave the research of solid mechanics great challenges. Those challenges would become a sort of opportunity if dealt with successfully. Otherwise, they would yield lots of negative effects. During the 3-day seminar, experts got the in-depth researches and communications into popular topics concerning Solid Mechanics, Nanometer Mechanics, Material Experimental Mechanics, Cross-Scale Analog, Lower-dimensional Mechanics, Interfacial Mechanics, Intelligent Material Mechanics, Multi-Field Coupling Mechanic, etc.

During the seminar, experts visited our campus and inspected laboratories in School of Material and Photoelectricity Physics and the Center of Analysis & Testing, etc. Experts highly praised our campus planning, subject construction. They paid a visit to Zhuzhou (National) New Material Base Station as well, investigating the Industrialization of scientific payoffs that our university carried out there.

It is known that the Chinese Young Scientists Forum is the series of events held by Chinese Science Association from the year of 1995, and aimed at establishing an academic platform of communication for those outstanding young experts. The forum takes the form of executive chairman holding, accepts scholars who are under 45 years old with PHD degree. Members are mainly composed of those outstanding young scientists and engineers who won the National Outstanding Youth Funds and one-hundred-people Project Prize or “Yangtze River Scholar” special professors alike. The forum was undertaken by Chinese Science Association and was sponsored by Chinese Society of Mechanics and our University. Professor Fang Daining from Tsinghua University, professor Zhong Zheng from Tongji University and professor Zhou Yichun from our university are the Executive Chairmen.
