Xiangtan University (XTU) is a comprehensive and national key university in China. The great man Mao Zedong initiated its establishment in 1958. Since establishment, XTU has steadily improved its comprehensive school-running strength and core competitiveness. It ranked 43rd among all mainland Chinese universities appraised by the Times Higher Education (THE) magazine. It has become one of the few universities which entered the ranks of well-respected international universities listed by THE magazine and USNEWS. XTU has a graduate school, 23 colleges and teaching departments, and more than 30,000 full-time students. There are 9 majors including literature, history, philosophy, science, engineering, economics, management, law, and art. XTU has gained an increasing influence internationally and domestically. It has successively established cooperation platforms and launched 30-plus international cooperation training projects with 60 universities and research institutions from more than 20 countries. XTU has set up Confucius institutes in Leon University in Spain and Makerere University in Uganda respectively. XTU was included into the “China-Africa Universities 20+20 Cooperation Plan” by the Ministry of Education of PRC. XTU has been designated as the “China-Africa Legal Training Base” and the permanent host of the “China-Africa Law Dean Conference” by the Chinese Law Society. China-Africa Economic & Trade Research Institute also has set up China-Africa Law and Humanities Base in XTU.

I. Introduction to Chinese Government Scholarship--China-Africa Friendship Program

Chinese Government Scholarship-China-Africa Friendship Program is a full scholarship established by Ministry of Education to support Chinese universities to attract outstanding international students from African Countries for graduate studies in China. Xiangtan University is one of the prestigious universities designated to undertake this program to recruit graduate students.

II. Scholarship contents

This scholarship covers:

1.Tuition fees;

2. Accommodations;

3. Health Insurance;

4. Living stipends

Master’s degree applicants: 3,000 Yuan/Month

Doctoral degree applicants: 3,500 Yuan/Month

III. Eligibility

1. Citizens of African nationality, physically and mentally healthy, good at study and able to perform successfully in an academic program in a foreign country.

2. Education and Ages

Bachelor’s degree holders and below the age of 35 when applying for master’s degree programs.

Master’s degree holders and below the age of 40 when applying for doctoral degree programs.

3. Language Capability

Applicants from non-native English-speaking countries are required to provide proof of English proficiency, requiring (1) an IELTS score of 6 or higher, or TOEFL score of 80 or higher; or (2) proof that the previous degree was taught in full English, or (3) documentation of studying in an English-speaking country for at least one year (inclusive).

Native English speakers are exempt from providing the above-mentioned English proficiency certificate.

Applicants who have passed HSK 4 test are preferred.

4. Comply with Chinese laws and university regulations. Respect Chinese customs.

5. Applicants who are not awarded other scholarships.

IV. Application Majors

One academic year includes a fall semester and a spring semester. All degree programs commence in the fall semester.

V. Application Process

1. Application materials should be scanned in A4 format and emailed to the Foreign Affairs Office of Law Faculty of Xiangtan University. (Email:zxhtracy@163.com).

2. Application Due Date: June 20, 2021 (Subject to email delivery date)

Precautions:

The formal Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for study in China (JW201) will be sent to the admitted applicants. The admitted applicants shall apply to local Chinese embassy or consulate for a student visa (X visa) with passport, admission letter, Visa application form (JW201), physical examination record form, blood test record, etc. The admitted applicants must check in for registration at the International Students Department (Office Room: 107) in Xiangtan University with the mentioned documents by the date indicated on the Admission Notice.

VI. Application Paperwork

1. CSC Scholarship Application Form

*For CSC Scholarship applicants, the “CSC Scholarship Application Form” is required. Log into the “China Scholarship Council Online Application System for Studying in China” (http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/login) to fill in. Select the Program Category as Category B and submit your information through the agency number “10530” of Xiangtan University. Then download and print the “CSC Scholarship Application Form”.

2. A copy of passport information page

*Passports must be valid for at least one year.

3. Notarized highest diploma and official transcripts

*The prospective diploma recipients shall submit official documents issued by your current school to prove your current student status and expected graduation date. The official diploma must be provided at registration.

4. Foreigner Physical Examination Form (with a valid Blood Test Report copy)

*The physical examination must cover all the items listed in the “Foreigner Physical Examination Form” (https://en.xtu.edu.cn/Admissions/Download.htm). Incomplete forms (e.g., without signatures by attending physicians or official stamps from the hospital, without a sealed photograph of the applicant, etc.) are considered as invalid. Examination forms must be in either Chinese or English. Please be careful about your examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.

5. Certification of no criminal record

* Applicants must submit a certificate of no criminal record issued by the judicial department of their home country; school students or current employees can provide a certificate of good conduct issued by your school or employment agency as a substitute; the issuing date cannot be earlier than March 30, 2021.

6. Specific study or research plan in China

*Include the applicant’s academic profile and plans to study or research in China; Please write in English or Chinese at least 800 words.

7. Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors

*Either in Chinese or English, including referees’ contact information; the issuing date cannot be earlier than March 30, 2021.

8. Chinese proficiency certificate/HSK certificate

9. Other materials such as published papers, awards, proof of work or internship, etc. (if available)

Precautions:

1.Application materials which are not in Chinese or English must be submitted with their additional notarized Chinese or English translation copies. It is recommended to notarize your documents and their translated copies at the embassy (consulate) of the People's Republic of China in your own country. Documents with more than two pages must be stamped on each page or sealed over the perforation.

2. Applicants shall be responsible for the authenticity and completeness of their submitted materials. Any false or missing application documents will not be accepted.
