Professor Xi Youmin is Chairperson of the Business Administration Education Steering Commission under the Ministry of Education, Executive President and Board Member of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of University of Liverpool. He gave a lecture entitled “New Business – Where are the new points and how to make them?” at the Academic Forum of Xiangtan University (XTU) on June 8, 2021. Liu Jianping, XTU vice president, presided over the lecture. Yu Zuguo, XTU vice president, persons in charge of social science and development planning departments, and over 150 teachers and students of the XTU Business School, attended.
Professor Xi is mainly engaged in research in such fields as leadership and strategy, management and decision-making, organizational behavior and policy, and education management. In 1987, he established HeXie theory and later extended it into the HeXie (Harmony) Management Theory. He expressed his ideas in plain and easy-to-understand language at the lecture.
He said that we were now in the UACC era (Uncertainty, Ambiguity, Complexity and Changeability). These new changes will lead to a series of paradigm revolutions such as sharing, symbiosis, and global competition and cooperation, which calls for new management changes. He explained new mechanism of ecological autonomy game under new management, new platform-based organization, and new leaders represented by industrialists. He put forward his own opinions on the new responsibilities and thinking of business schools under the new background; and how to build new business based on the new management logic of the new era, set new goals and systems for college education, and cultivate new business talents in the intelligent and ecological era. He, combining the innovative practice of XJTLU’s business education, suggested to promote the reform of management education from several aspects. They were: internationalization, adjustment of talent qualification structure, strengthening of literacy education, reform of education process, application of new technology, and reshaping of education scenario.
Professor Xi also conducted Q&A interactions with teachers and students, and participated in the business administration professional construction and “Double First-Class” construction symposium under the background of new business.
Accompanied by XTU Vice President Liu Jianping, he visited the South School Gate and School History Museum before the lecture.
