Guo Weixun, director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan (WHETO) visited Xiangtan University (XTU) on the afternoon of May 17. In terms of cultural communication between Hong Kong and XTU, and educational affairs of Hong Kong students, Guo had a discussion with Liu Changqing, vice president of XTU, faculty of HK, Macau and Taiwan Affairs’ Office and twenty Hong Kong students. Wu Yibiao, deputy director of Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of Hunan Province attended the meeting.
Liu introduced history and development of XTU in detail, especially research cooperation and academic communication with other universities. He also indicated that the delegation’s visit would provide opportunities for further communication and cooperation between universities from Hong Kong and XTU.
Guo introduced the functions of WHETO and goals of the visit. He hoped to promote cultural communication and project cooperation between HK and XTU, and enable HK students to have a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the WHETO.
Guo also discussed further about study and campus life with students.
Followed by Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Chengdu, WHETO is the fifth office established in mainland China by Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government. Its main functions are strengthening communication among HK and five provinces, including Hubei, Hunan, Shanxi, Jiangxi and Henan, and promoting exchange and cooperation in terms of economy, trade and other areas.
