On the morning of November 4, 2022 World Computing Conference was held at North Star International Conference Centre of Changsha, Hunan. It was sponsored by People’s Government of Hunan Province, and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. As one of the special activities of 2022 World Computing Conference, “Applied Mathematics and Computer Science” Experts’ Forum was held on the afternoon of November 4. The forum was jointly organized by Xiangtan University (XTU), National Center for Applied Mathematics in Hunan, and Hunan Shaofeng Institute for Applied Mathematics.
Huang Yunqing, secretary of the CPC XTU Committee, director of National Center for Applied Mathematics in Hunan hosted the conference.
Shi Fenggang delivered a speech. He is the leader of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Team stationed at the Industry and Information Technology Department of Hunan Province, which was sent by the Hunan provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision, and a member of the CPC Industry and Information Technology Department Committee of Hunan Province. Yu Zuguo, vice president of XTU, faculty members of XTU, Hunan Shaofeng Institute for Applied Mathematics, universities, research institutes, tech parks and members of companies attended the meetings.
There were two parts of the Experts’ Forum, topic report and topic dialogue, which focused on combined innovation development of applied mathematics and computer science, shared achievements about applied mathematics in computer science, communicated cooperating experience between academy and industry, discussed applied practice of mathematics in computer science, propelled innovation development of applied mathematics and computer science, and sustainable development of computer science industry.
National Center for Applied Mathematics in Hunan, one of thirteen National Centers for Applied Mathematics, is the first national platform for mathematics in Hunan, as well as the innovation platform of Computing Power Supported Symbolic Engineering Algorithm in Hunan Province. The center was inaugurated at XTU on June 28, 2020, and has undertaken two projects of National Key R&D Program, won a dozen of national and provincial scientific and technologicalprizes. The experts have been to the front line of the industry, researched and solved a series of key math problems in engineering application, creating benefits of more than 500 million yuan. The “Intelligent Long Rail Track Laying Machine” became a typical demonstration of the application of Beidou System to the intellectualized transform of rail transit construction equipment. The “Kunlong 500” undersea mining vehicle, partly researched and manufactured by the Center, was exhibited on National 13th Five-year Plan Science and Technology Innovation Achievement Exhibition. The software of finite element core algorithm, co-researched and made by the Center may get rid of our dependence on foreign business software. Other achievements in terms of advancing calculating, smart navigation, smart manufacturing, engineering mechanics, deepwater development, industry software have also been performed on thematic exhibitions of 2022 World Computing Conference. So far, the construction of High Performance and Intelligent Computing Centre is being promoted. By 2025, the storage capacity of its super heterogeneous high performance parallel computing cluster plans to reach 10 PB, computing power will reach 5PFlops. As the operational entity, Hunan Shaofeng Institute for Applied Mathematics was officially established in December, 2021,and it became a new R & D center of Hunan Province in August, 2022. The institute takes full advantage of computing resources and merits, meets the needs of grand national strategies, and the needs of “3+3+2” modern industries in Hunan, and development of 22 new and superior industry chains, and the main direction of Xiangtan intelligent manufacturing, which consists of “liangxin” - new economic organization and new social organization, and “sandian” - electricity, telecommunications, radio and television. The institute attaches importance to R& D on design of common algorithm, generic model building, industrial software development, and smart navigation application. Also, the institute promotes cooperation of excellent companies, universities and research institutes in Hunan and other provinces, and tackles key problems by scientific and technological cooperation. The institute focuses on providing scientific, technological and intellectual support for the high-quality development of the region.
