Xiangtan University’s China-Africa cooperation achievement selected for the China-Africa Higher Education Cooperation Collection of Cases

From September 5 to 7, the annual meeting of the China-Africa Consortium of Universities Exchange Mechanism (CACU) was held in Beijing. Xiangtan University’s China-Africa cooperation achievement was selected for the China-Africa Higher Education Cooperation Collection of Cases. It was released at the meeting and recommended to the China-Africa delegates in attendance.

As a supporting event for the 2024 Forum on China–Africa Cooperation Beijing Summit, the annual meeting was focused on “China–Africa higher education cooperation development in the digital era” and aimed to support the construction of a high-level China–Africa community with a shared future through higher education cooperation. Representatives from 35 universities in 19 African countries, including Tanzania, Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya, and representatives from more than 50 Chinese universities attended. Xiangtan University’s Vice President Liu Jingang and the director of the Office of International Exchange were invited to participate.

The Case Study A Modest Sowing, A Bountiful Harvest: The Journey of Chinese Language Promotion in Uganda Submitted by Xiangtan University has been Selected into the China-Africa Higher Education Cooperation Collection of Cases. Since Xiangtan University was selected into the Ministry of Education’s 20+20 Cooperation Program for China-Africa Universities and established partnership with Makerere University in Uganda in 2010, XTU have collaborated in disciplines including Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, and Chinese Language and Literature. Notably, in 2014, the two universities co-founded the Confucius Institute, making Chinese language education a specialty brand cooperation project. Over the past decade, the two universities have jointly promoted the integration of Chinese language education into Uganda’s national education system, cultivated a team of local Chinese language instructors, and created a unique path of Chinese language teaching localization.

In addition, at the Exhibition of Achievements by Member Universities of the China–Africa Universities 100-Schools Cooperation Program, Xiangtan University submitted the exhibition report entitled Building a Brand in African Studies, Opening a New Chapter in Talent Cultivation, and , and Showing Remarkable Results in Characteristic Development-Exhibition on the Achievements of China- Africa Law and Humanities Exchange in Xiangtan University. This report fully demonstrated the image of Xiangtan University as a national key institution for African studies to the participating representatives from Chinese and African universities, introduced the achievements made by Xiangtan University in such aspects as language and cultural exchanges, the development of academic institutions, the construction of international platforms, the characteristics of talent cultivation, and service for local development, and showed the university’s unique advantage of leading the nation in African law research through its rich academic achievements.
