The 12th Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of León Held

On the afternoon of November 18, the 12th Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of León was held at Xiangtan University. Nuria González Álvarez, President of the University of León, Liu Jingang, Vice President of Xiangtan University, Óscar Fernández Álvarez, the foreign director of the Confucius Institute, along with Chinese board members attended the meeting, and some foreign board members participated online. The meeting was chaired by José Alberto Benítez Andrades, Vice President of the University of León.

The meeting heard the Council Secretary review the previous Council meeting, minutes, examined and adopted the 2024 annual work summary and 2025 work plan of the Confucius Institute, and held exchanges on the recent work arrangements of the Institute. During the discussion session, the two universities had in-depth exchanges on topics including attracting foreign teachers to teach in China for the Sino-foreign cooperative education program, optimizing the cooperation agreement, recognizing course credits, and improving the 2025 version of the talent training program.

On behalf of Xiangtan University, Liu Jingang extended a warm welcome to the delegation led by Nuria González Álvarez and sincere gratitude to all guests attending the Council meeting. He spoke highly of the Confucius Institute’s contributions in recent years to facilitating cultural exchanges between China and Spain, advancing the high-quality development of international Chinese language education, and deepening cooperation between the two universities. He noted that these achievements would not have been possible without the support of the University of León. The two universities will continue to take the Confucius Institute as a platform to promote exchanges and cooperation in other academic and professional fields.

Nuria González Álvarez remarked that after 13 years of development, the Confucius Institute at the University of León has achieved many milestone accomplishments and has grown into one of the most influential Confucius Institutes in Spain, with its language teaching and cultural promotion activities covering the entire northwestern region. She emphasized that the University of León and Xiangtan University have maintained close cooperation over the years, and that their joint education programs and the Confucius Institute stand as proud symbols of their successful partnership.

In his concluding remarks, José Alberto Benítez Andrades emphasized the importance of communication. He noted that over the past two months of exchanges and consultations, the two universities had resolved many issues, describing the meeting as highly productive.
