From November 20 to 26, Deng Guojun, Vice President of Xiangtan University, led a six-member delegation on a visit and exchange tour to Tanzania and Uganda. The delegation signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Dar es Salaam, attended the 10th Council Meeting and the 10th Anniversary Series Events of the Confucius Institute at Makerere University, paid a visit to the Zanzibar Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, and conducted research visits to the Confucius Classrooms at the University of Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar State University, as well as Chinese-funded enterprises in Tanzania and Uganda.
The delegation first arrived in Tanzania. At the University of Dar es Salaam, they were warmly received by President William-Andey Lazaro Anangisye. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between law schools and held in-depth discussions on expanding and deepening bilateral collaboration.
In Zanzibar, the delegation visited the local Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, where both sides exchanged views on future educational cooperation. Deputy Permanent Secretary Dr. Mwanakhamis Adam Ameir extended his welcome and appreciation, noting the great potential for further collaboration.

The delegation also conducted surveys at the Confucius Institute at the University of Dar es Salaam and Confucius Classrooms at the State University of Zanzibar, gaining insights into their operations, achievements in Chinese language teaching, and their role in promoting China-Africa cultural exchange in recent years.
In Uganda, the delegation attended the 10th Board Meeting and the 10th anniversary celebration of the Confucius Institute at Makerere University. Deng Guojun also extended his regards to the Chinese language teachers and volunteers working at the Institute.

The delegation paid a visit to the Chinese Embassy in Uganda and met with Ambassador Zhang Lizhong. Deng introduced the recent development of the university and the Confucius Institute, expressing gratitude for the embassy’s long-standing support for the Institute’s development.
Zhang congratulated the university on its achievements in promoting Chinese language education and China-Africa cultural exchange, and reaffirmed continued support for the Confucius Institute at Makerere University.
At the Confucius Classroom established under Makerere University at Luyanzi Institute of Technology, the delegation held discussions with representatives from Chinese enterprises, including CNOOC Uganda Limited and China Communications Construction Company Uganda Branch, to better understand the demand for Chinese language professionals in local workforce development.
This visit focused on the development and enhancement of Confucius Institutes. Taking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Confucius Institutes worldwide and the 10th anniversary of the Confucius Institute at Makerere University as opportunities, the university will continue to strengthen the effectiveness of Confucius Institutes, advance international Chinese language education, deepen people-to-people exchanges, and foster closer mutual understanding between China and other countries
