On May 29, the 2025 Promotion Meeting of the “China-Africa University 100 Cooperation Plan” was held at Beijing Foreign Studies University . The meeting released the list of the first batch of Chinese leading universities and the list of key cooperation projects under the exchange mechanism for 2025. Owing to its outstanding achievements in advancing China-Africa legal education cooperation in 2024, Xiangtan University was designated by the China Association of Higher Education as one of the first batch of Chinese leading universities specializing in national social governance within the China-Africa University Cooperation Program.

As a representative of the selected leading universities, the official from Xiangtan University’s International Exchange Office was invited to deliver a speech at the meeting. The speech comprehensively summarized the key progress, development plans and cooperative initiatives carried out by Xiangtan University since its admission to the China-Africa University Alliance and the China-Africa University Cooperation Program in May 2024.

Over the past year, guided by African legal studies, Xiangtan University has accelerated the integration of liberal arts disciplinary resources, established the Institute of African Studies, and put it into substantive operation, thereby building a solid platform for China-Africa academic research and cooperation. We successfully held the 6th China-Africa Forum for Deans of Law Schools in Africa, and initiated, drafted, signed, and released the “China-Africa Cooperation Declaration on Legal Education”, continuing to lead China-Africa cooperation in legal education. In addition, the university co-hosted the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Confucius Institute at Makerere University, and promoted the establishment of China’s first China-Africa Economic and Trade Arbitration Institute, providing strong legal safeguards for China-Africa economic and trade cooperation. Looking ahead, the university will advance the high-level development of African studies as a distinctive discipline, carry out talent cultivation and think tank services, provide high-quality support for the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, and hold a high-standard “FOCAC Rule of Law Forum.”

Xiangtan University will take this opportunity to build integrated platforms for teacher resource sharing, international communication and specialized training in the fields of China-Africa law and national governance. The China-Africa Research Institute will implement ten key supportive initiatives. Xiangtan University will faithfully fulfill its responsibilities as a leading university in national social governance and contribute to building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
