President Liao Yong’an Meets with Johannesburg Municipal Delegation of South Africa

On June 21, a municipal delegation from Johannesburg, South Africa, led by Mr. Philemon Seope Mogotsi, paid a visit to Xiangtan University. President Liao Yong’an and university officials held talks with the delegation, and both sides conducted in-depth discussions on deepening educational cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between China and South Africa.

President Liao Yong’an gave a detailed briefing on the university’s cooperation with African countries. He noted that the China-Africa Research Institute of Xiangtan University has become a key platform for China-Africa academic exchanges and talent training, and is accelerating the implementation of the Faculty and Students Going to Africa Initiative. He proposed deepening cooperation in four major areas,includingofficial exchange visits, university-to-university collaboration, joint think tank development and youth exchanges.Hehoped that the Johannesburg would supportXiangtan University’s upcoming visit to South Africa in November and assist in connecting with local higher education institutions such as the University of the Witwatersrand.

Leader of the delegation Philemon Seope Mogotsi spoke highly of Xiangtan University’s achievements in Africa-related cooperation. He stated that the Johannesburg is willing to serve as a strategic anchor for Xiangtan University in South Africa and fully support the implementation of university cooperation and youth exchange programs.

The eight-member delegation comprised experts in municipal administration, media communication and youth affairs, including Ms. Khathutshelo Mulaudzi and Mr. George Nhlanhla Nkosi. Representatives fromXiangtanUniversity’s International Exchange Office and China-Africa Research Institute attended the meeting.
