Xiangtan University Signs Cooperation Agreement with Lobachevsky University of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia

On December 5, Trofimov Oleg, Rector of Lobachevsky University of Nizhny Novgorod, led a delegation to visit Xiangtan University and signed two agreements on scientific and educational cooperation as well as student academic exchanges with the university. Xiao Zhiwei, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee, and Liu Jingang, Vice President of Xiangtan University, and other university officials attended the signing ceremony.

At the signing ceremony, Xiao Zhiwei extended a warm welcome to Rector Trofimov and his delegation. He noted that both universities are members of the Yangtze-Volga River University Alliance, a bilateral initiative advocated by the leaders of China and Russia. It is expected that under the framework of the alliance, the two sides will actively explore in-depth cooperation in faculty and student exchanges, scientific research collaboration, and cultural mutual learning. The two institutions will continuously enhance friendship and jointly make positive contributions to promoting educational cooperation and the development of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Russia.

Rector Trofimov stated that Lobachevsky University of Nizhny Novgorod attaches great importance to its cooperation with Xiangtan University. The two universities enjoy high compatibility across a wide range of disciplines. He hoped that with the signing of the agreements, both sides would carry out practical cooperation in faculty and student exchanges, joint scientific research and joint platform development, so as to contribute to the development of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the new era.

Witnessed by all attendees, the two universities signed theAgreement on Scientific and Educational Cooperationandthe Agreement on Student Academic Exchangesbetween Xiangtan Universityof China and Lobachevsky University of Nizhny Novgorod of Russia.

Subsequently, both sides introduced their own international exchange endeavors, and held in-depth discussions on scientific research cooperation and talent cultivation in disciplines including mathematics, materials science and physics. Representatives from the School of Mathematics and Computational Science, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering successively presented the disciplinary features and academic achievements of their schools. Liu Jingang expressed that he hopes the two universities would take this signing as a new starting point to accelerate the implementation and realization of collaborative projects.

After the ceremony, Rector Trofimov and his entourage visited the South Gate Square and the University History Museum of Xiangtan University, where they could experience closely the university’s educational history and cultural heritage.

Founded in 1916, Lobachevsky University of Nizhny Novgorod is a key comprehensive university in Russia, enjoying a high reputation in natural sciences, social sciences and other fields. The signing of this cooperation agreement marks a new stage in Xiangtan University’s cooperation with Russian universities and will inject new momentum into humanistic and cultural exchanges between China and Russia.
