On August 21, the 6th Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation & China-Africa Think Tank High-Level Dialogue was held in Beijing, with the theme of “Join Hands in the Paths towards Modernization”. Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Kaze, a Burundian teacher from the Faculty of Law ofXiangtan University, and Dassy, a Ugandan doctoral student, attended the event as representatives of African teachers and students in Hunan Province, and accepted media interviews.

Kaze said that, in response to the uncertainty brought about by the complex and changing international landscape, China and Africa should seize the economic development opportunities created by the Belt and Road Initiative. He noted that the vision of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation should be aligned with the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as the development strategies and plans of African countries, so as to open up new space for cooperation and unlock new potential.

In an interview withChina Daily, Dassy said that against the backdrop ofongoingchanges in the international political environment, jointly building the Belt and Road is of great importance to China and Africa and serves the common interests of the nearly 2.7 billion people on both sides. She added that China-Africa media cooperation is facing new tasks, and there is an urgent need to better tell the story of the Belt and Road Initiative and promote it more effectively. She also shared the new changes the initiative has brought to her home country, Uganda, and spoke highly of the

Kampala-Entebbe Expressway Project from the capital Kampala to Entebbe International Airport, which was constructed by Chinese enterprises.

In recent years, Xiangtan University has accelerated efforts in African studies and talent cultivation, and established the China-Africa Institute for Legal and Economic and Trade Studies. Leveraging its nationally leading strength in African law studies, the university has actively developed the African Law Identification and Database platform and hosted the Forum of Chinese and African Law School Deans. It has also recruited full-time researchers from Burundi and taken the lead in launching a program in African legal practice under the Master of Law (for non-law students), achieving notable results in the education of international students from Africa studying in China.
