Yuan Feng is currently Deputy Director and Researcher of the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Born in Shandong in 1970, he graduated from the Department of Physics of Shandong University in 1991, and obtained a doctorate from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1997. From 1998 to 2005, he performed postdoctoral research at Nanjing University, Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy, Germany, Harvard University, and Purdue University. He returned to China in 2005 as a researcher at the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory. In 2008, he was funded by the China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists. He enjoyed the special allowance from the State Council, was selected as a “National-level Young Experts with Outstanding Contributions" for the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project in New Century, and won the Shanghai Natural Science Peony Award.
