Mathematician Yang Le, born in November 1939 in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, is currently a researcher of the Academy of Mathematics and System Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Yang graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Peking University in 1962, with a master’s degree from CAS Institute of Mathematics in 1966, and elected as CAS member (academician) in 1980.

 

Academician Yang Le has made a series of important research achievements in the fields of function value distribution, argument distribution theory and normal family. He won a number of prizes, including National Science Conference Award, State Natural Science Award, National Science and Technology Progress Award, Hua Luogeng Mathematical Prize, Tan Kah Kee Science Award in Mathematics and Physics, Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize, and National Book Award.

 

Yang was appointed as deputy director of the Institute of Mathematics in 1982, and director of the Institute of Mathematics in 1987. He was elected as member of the seventh and eighth CPPCC National Committee, vice president of the 5th and 6th All-China Youth Federation, member of the 3rd National Committee of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and member of standing committee of 4th CAST National Committee, and executive member, secretary-general, and president of Chinese Mathematical Society.

 

Academician Yang served as the member of the 3rd Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council (ADCSC), mathematics appraisal team member of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ADCSC, member of CAS Foundation, and member of the 3rd and 4th National Natural Science Awards Committee.
