Profile
Zhang Shiguo pursued his postgraduate and doctoral programs of study in the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and graduated with a doctor’s degree in 2011. His supervisor is Professor Deng Youquan, who was honored with the Thousand Talent Program and the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and instructed students to win Top 100 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award. Between 2012 and 2016, he was engaged in a four-and-a-half year postdoctoral study in Japan’s Yokohama National University under instruction of Professor Masayoshi Watanabe, a world renowned expert in the field of ionic liquid and electrochemistry. He was selected "Jiangsu Distinguished Professor" in 2016. He has been appointed as a professor in College of Materials Science and Engineering, Hunan University after returning to China in October of the same year. In 2017, he was included in the 13th batch of the Thousand Talent Program for Young Outstanding Scientists supported by the Organization Department of the Central Committee. In 2018, he won Hunan Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

At present, he is mainly engaged in basic research of ionic liquids and carbon materials as well as application of electrochemical clean energy. In recent years, he has published 60 SCI papers, among which more than 30 SCI papers were published as first or correspondent author in international journals, such as Chem. Rev., Prog. Mater. Sci., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Energy Mater., Nano Energy, Chem. Sci., Chem. Mater., Mater. Horiz., and Green Chem. With a cumulative impact factor of 263, his papers have been selected on the cover of the periodicals, and listed as hot papers or highly cited papers.

He won the "Young Innovation Award" for ionic liquids and green process in 2017 (it is evaluated every three years with not more than five winners for each session), the Gansu Technological Invention Award in 2013, and the Pollyanna Chu Yuet Wah outstanding doctoral scholarship (For PhD Candidates, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China) in 2010. He has presided over two projects of the National Natural Science Foundation (a general project and a project supported by youth fund). He has participated in domestic and international academic conferences including MRS, Gordon, APCIL-4, ECEE 2014, COIL-6, and ACEPS-8, and given oral or invitational reports.
